For fuji maestro, Malaika, doling out money is as important as eating. He told Saturday Beats that as a celebrity, he never steps out of his house without having money to give to his teeming fans.
The fuji singer further said that if a celebrity steps out of his house and no one hails him, then the person has not yet attained fame. “If a celebrity, you step out of your house and people do not hail you, then you are doing something wrong. It shows that you are not yet successful and the artiste has a lot of work to do. I think it is part of our responsibility to give out money to our fans. So, as an entertainer, you have to include it in your budget. I do not go out when I do not have money because my fans would neither understand nor believe that I am low on cash at that moment. It is a must to give them money. There are some things you just have to do, for instance, when you are not fasting you must eat. So, doling out money to fans is as important as the food you eat. Even if the money I am giving out is not much, I still endeavour to give my fans money. First impression goes a long way, there are some people that would meet you for the first time and when you give them money, they would be very grateful,” the fuji singer said.
He noted that but for music, his next career path would have been in sports as he has been a boxer since 1993 till date. “When I was a kid, I played football in school but I was more into boxing. I did not become a professional boxer because I believed it was not my calling and I cannot leave music for any other thing regardless of the huge fees boxers are earning now. I just like to box, not because I am a fighter. I have been boxing right from my tender age and I started in 1993. I still box till date when I have the time.
“My music has taken so much of my time but any slight opportunity I get, I indulge in boxing. I know some people might not believe this because of my physique but as a boxer, you are not required to be huge or very muscular. If you are, it is just an addition. There are some basic work-out regimes you have to do consistently as a boxer to enable your punch to be powerful,” he said.
