Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) responded to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Kolapo Olusola Eleka, threat to challenge the result of the Ekiti gubernatorial election in court. INEC said he can challenge the result of the poll in court.
INEC further stated that results of the Ekiti gubernatorial election was a reflection of of the will of the people and that Eleka heading to court was a proper thing to do.
“INEC welcomes the decision of Prof. Eleka to go to the tribunal on the outcome of the governorship election. That is the proper thing to do”, Wole Osaze-Uzzi who is INEC’s director of voter education and publicity said.
However, incumbent Governor of Ekiti state, Governor Ayodele Fayose described the gubernatorial election as rigged and blaming President Muhammadu Buhari. Governor Fayose vowed that the party would secure its stolen mandatw in court.
He claimed there was no celebration in Ekiti after Fayemi’s victory saying it showed mandate was stolen from people.
