The Police in Enugu State has said a 24-year-old man identified as Chukwu committed suicide after smoking Indian hemp, the news which was confirmed by the spokesman for the command, SP. Ebere Amaraizu, who said the incident happened on August 22 at Ameke village in Enu-Oduma community in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He reportedly committed suicide after taking his usual and hourly wraps of marijuana, popularly called ‘hemp’.
Mr Amaraizu said:
“It was gathered that the victim had allegedly committed the act by hanging on top of a tree inside a forest at Obokolo, which is between Amorji and Ameke Oduma.
“It was further gathered that the victim was always in the habit of smoking marijuana, which may have caused the unfortunate incident.
According to the people in the village, it was very much likely he committed the act after an overdose of the dangerous substance’’
He however added that investigation had commenced with a view to ascertaining the actual cause of death.
